April 29, 2018 Gift of Light for Mt. Mayon Evacuees
More than 56,000 people had been evacuated to safer grounds from the eruption of Mt. Mayon last January. The outpouring of rain posed danger to the people of Sto. Domingo and the alarming conditions of the evacuation centers brought hardships to the evacuees. One Heart for Hope visited the evacuation centers at Bicol National High School to provide comfort and light to these families. With 2,686 evacuees, the center was overcrowded and muddy. We distributed 120 solar lights particularly to the senior citizens of the center and other much needed supplies. Huge thanks to Mayor Herbie Aguas for assisting us, as always. To the balikbayans from Bay Area, Nieves Beng Alviar & Mario Alviar, and sisters Nini Granda, Chita Torres, Manang Ador & Manang Pat. Your contributions and help will make a difference to the lives of our kababayans. To the indefatigable couple who endlessly help, support and finance outreach projects whenever they are in the Philippines, Virginia Lam and Edward Lam, your hearts are pure. Also huge thanks to all the donors thru Glenda Bule’s birthday fundraising to help these evacuees during this calamity, you touched many lives.

April 10, 2018 Bringing HOPE to Northern Samar
In the distant island of Biri in Northern Samar, poorest of the poor fishermen were given "sibiran" or paddle boat for long-term sustainable solution to reduce poverty. These fishermen, who are highly skilled in fishing, could not afford to own a boat because of their daily struggle to meet even the most basic needs. Almost all of them would borrow a boat or join fishing expeditions. A paddle boat will make such a huge difference in their lives as this can generate income to support their families for years. Many thanks to our donors. you gave these families a chance for a decent and promising life. As always, One Heart For Hope will reach out to our kababayans who are considered "unreachable."
April 16, 2018 OHFH Tutorial Center Opens to 45 Pre-School Children
One Heart for Hope Tutorial Center provides a fun learning environment for children with zero knowledge and a foundation in the basic academic areas that will support their overall development and jumpstart for elementary school. Six basic subjects will be introduced to jump start their schooling: Writing, Reading, Language, Mathematics, Science, and MAPE (Music, Arts and Physical Education). The lessons are in compliance with the K to 12 system being implemented by the Dept. of Education to produce globally competitive students. Among the many children applicants coming from financially challenged families in the vicinity and as far as other barangays, 45 children ages 4-7 and with zero knowledge were chosen. Our goal is to help children develop a positive attitude toward school and learning; develop a sense of high self-esteem; and learn discipline and respect for self and others. With four (4) highly qualified teachers and 4 teacher assistants, the program also includes free snacks or lunch, backpacks, uniforms, hygiene packs and all the school supplies. Thanks One Heart for Hope Philippines who continue to manage this program each year!
May 28, 2018 - OHFH Tutorial Graduation and Award Ceremony
CONGRATULATIONS to the lil graduates! Accompanied by their proud parents, 45 children enjoyed their first graduation to celebrate this milestone. These children now have the skills and knowledge that will serve as their torches in their run towards a better future and assist them in escaping the grips of poverty. At OHFH Tutorial Center, we help our young students develop the academic skills, self-discipline and attitudes they need to excel as they move up into public school first grade. Without this program, these children would struggle in public school or may not attend at all. 200 students successfully graduated in this program since 2013 and some have surpassed their peers with honors. Heartfelt gratitude to our teachers, sponsors and supporters for providing them the gift of education. Thank you to OHFH Philippines team for all your hardwork and patience as mentors to all these children.
