December 7, 2015 - Lighting Up Itbayat, Batanes
Batanes, the northernmost point in the Philippines, is the smallest in terms of both area and population. It is nearer to Taiwan than in Manila. Batanes has its own climate which cannot be predicted with any weather site or app. Wind conditions and sea current would change in a few hours. Delays and cancellation of flights and boat trips are a common thing. Batanes is also frequented by typhoons. One can't help but be awed with the sturdy and strong Ivatan houses built to weather the strong elements. Very few people who visit Batanes dare to vendure the small island of Itbayat, north of Basco, the last inhabited island north of the Philippines. Noel Galang of One Heart For Hope visited this beautiful place of fascinating people and culture to spread goodwill and distributed solar lanterns and school supplies to these people. Many thanks to JM Mariano, Edwin Gonzales, Long Doplito, Noli Gabilo, and Kurt G. Ibañes.
